- Title
- Arthur & George
- Summary
- Arthur and George grow up worlds and miles apart in late nineteenth-century Britain: Arthur in shabby-genteel Edinburgh; George the son of a vicar in a small Staffordshire village. Arthur becomes a doctor; George a solicitor. As the new century begins, the unlikely pair are brought together by a series of events which made sensational headlines as the Great Wriley Outrages. We follow each man's journey through outrageous accusation and unrivaled success, through faith and perseverance and dogged self-recrimination, whether in the dock awaiting complete disgrace or at the height of fame while desperately in love with a woman not his wife.
