The collection includes copies of newspaper articles covering the 1978 Douglas County Courthouse fire in Castle Rock, Colo.; copies of newspaper articles and other materials related to the Friends of the Douglas County Library home tours organized in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a fundraiser for the library; newspaper articles and other memorabilia related to the ceremony organized for the first time in 1965 to celebrate the lighting of the star atop the rock in Castle Rock; and a notebook containing newspaper articles, photographs of the Golden Dobbin restaurant, and memorials to Anne McConnell
Biographical or historical data
Anne McConnell was active in the Castle Rock, Colo. community beginning in the 1960s. In 1964 she and her husband, William, opened the Golden Dobbin tea room in a 100-year-old house in the town. Along with other Chamber of Commerce members, she was involved in organizing the Town of Castle Rock's first star lighting event in 1965, and was active in the Douglas County Friends of the Library when the organization was founded in 1966. She and her husband operated the Golden Dobbin for over twenty years. In 1990 they sold the Golden Dobbin and later retired to Arizona before moving to California in 2001.
